My first MBA application decision of the year.....School : Cornell, Date : Dec 7, 2007
I have been dinged by Cornell. I was expecting at least a waitlist and the ding was really hard to digest. But I know that I need to move on and try to make the best of whatever opportunities come my way!
Good luck to all for the upcoming applications and decision deadlines!
PS: Point to remember for future applicants. This year Dec 7, 2007 was the decision deadline for Cornell. They called up majority of the accepted applicants a day before the deadline. Also their application status website was not working for the entire day on Dec 7. So be prepared for all kinds of things on decision dates and try not to get too stressed out! I know that’s easier said than done….I was there 4 days back, ask me!

Sorry to hear about your Cornell Ding!
going by your fave 7 list, you might have had a blessing in disguise. Of your list, I have visited NYU, CBS & Darden. Based on your Cornell visit, I think I'd rate all three above Cornell for the following reasons:
- Classes - Darden w/ case method was phenomenal in interaction & learning. (Same for HBS). Nothing else comes close. While I do agree with most people that some classes are not suited to case style, I think overall benefits may outweigh the cons.
CBS comes in a close second for classes - lot of interaction, good intelligent discussion.
NYU - A lot of students seemed aloof and not completely involved.
Both NY schools though had an element of callousness among students - coming late to class, using laptops while speaker is talking - something I didn't see in other 5 schools i visited.
- Facilities - NYU wins this one. Nice facilities. Somewhat cramped (its NY!) but nice. CBS is really old. While Darden is ok.
- Community - Darden - If you visit , must attend First Coffee. Great community atmosphere. Definitely felt really tight knit. NYU comes second, while CBS was average nothing very special.
- I think you maybe looking at Finance. From that perspective, CBS is probably best of these 3 (and probably below Wharton, as you have it on your list). NYU had a very heavy media & entertainment focus - met a number of current and perspective students interested in it.
That's just my two cents.
Hopefully, this ding will workout for the best. Goodluck with other interviews!
Hey Gagan,
Thank you for the detailed comments.
Yes, I too was fortunate enough to visit all the schools on my list.
Darden sure was top-notch in terms of class interaction, learning and community feel.
NYU and CBS did feel a bit different, but then NYC location and finance recruiting was awesome there.
Hope that whatever happens, happens for the best.
Thanks again and goodluck with your apps!
I feel you! My first decision this season was a ding. I've applied to several other schools, but -- ouch!
